Concord New Hampshire is a beautiful state capital city with lots of great dining. The Centennial Hotel is a historic hotel with character and charm. My dear friend K and I took a lovely summer trip to New England and thoroughly enjoyed our time in Concord New Hampshire.
Historic Centennial Hotel
The Centennial Hotel was built to be a home for Civil War widows. This beautiful old Victorian building has lovely amenities and a great assortment of rooms. It is very near downtown Concord and is convenient for getting around. Breakfast and dinner are available in the Granite Restaurant. Each afternoon a wonderful baked treat appeared in our rooms. I always love to stay in historic hotels and this one was a winner! https://www.thecentennialhotel.com/
Main Street
Concord is home to the state capitol building and was founded in 1727. I enjoyed seeing the historic buildings and thinking about how many Presidential elections have gotten their starts here. It’s always nice to see a city built alongside a river, the Merrimack. Daniel Webster’s statue honors the famous New Hampshire lawyer, politician, and orator. https://www.visitconcord-nh.com/
Great dining
Tucker’s for breakfast
For local foods, skillets, scrambles, benedicts, and omelets, we fell in love with Tucker’s. It’s a place worth going every day of your stay if you love breakfast. They have a great friendly staff, a wonderful coffee system if you are waiting for a table, and many, many choices for breakfast. I’m always happy if I can have avocado with my breakfast! https://tuckersnh.com/
Granite Restaurant for elegant dinner
K and I had our most elegant meal at the Granite Restaurant in the Centennial Hotel. It’s fun to get dressed up and eat on a white tablecloth!
The menu lists the liquors in the Granite’s bar program. I enjoyed the Granite Delight with Woodford Reserve and Aperol.
A nice feature of the restaurant’s service is the option to order a full or half portion. Look at this spectacular blueberry and lavender soup!
Be sure to make a reservation at the Granite. Hotel guests and locals both enjoy the modern quiet atmosphere and excellent food. http://www.graniterestaurant.com/
Beefside for local flavor
Beefside is a local roadside spot famous for their roast beef sandwiches. The huge menu has just about anything you might want! Lots of local families eat here and the staff is really friendly. Beefside is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. http://www.beefsiderestaurant.net/Home
Barley House Tavern for a perfect pour
The Barley House Tavern is a very popular spot on Main Street downtown. I was very impressed with the bartenders’ skills with a Guinness pour. It’s a lively restaurant with good food.
I just fell in love with the pickles I ate in New Hampshire. No one could explain to me why they are so good. It’s a little strange since I’m from pickle country in North Carolina! The lobster roll here has excellent thick cut bacon on it, such a treat! http://concord.thebarleyhouse.com/
