Merrimack NH and Wentworth by the sea New Castle and great places to visit within easy driving distance of Boston or Concord NH. My dear friend K and I took a lovely summer trip to New England. I’m sharing a couple of our adventures near Concord. 
Merrimack NH
Merrimack is home to the Budweiser Brewery Experience. You can tour the brewery, eat at the Biergarten, shop at the gift shop, and visit the pretty quarters for the Clydesdales. The horses are not always in residence, but we were lucky and got to see them.
Wentworth by the Sea, New Castle
There’s a small bit of New Hampshire on the shore of the Atlantic and we really wanted to see the beautiful and historic grand hotel, Wentworth by the Sea. The hotel has been entertaining since 1874 and was host for the historic Portsmouth Peace Treaty between Russia and Japan in 1905.
The SALT Kitchen and Bar has lovely window-side seats and an artistic glass ceiling. It’s a beautiful elegant vibe while the menu is very approachable. Of course, we had to try the lobster roll!
We enjoyed walking around the dock area and checking out the other dining options. Nearby you can also visit Portsmouth and you are very close to Maine!

Getting there
You can fly into Boston and drive up Route 3 to get to Merrimack. Manchester is further north and Route 93 will take you into Concord. You can take 95 or 1 from Boston to get to New Castle. From Concord, 393, 202, and 4 will take you to New Castle.
Grabbing a bite
We flew into Boston and wanted to eat lunch on our way to Concord. I’m so excited that we discovered the Mount Vernon Restaurant and Pub in Somerville, MA. I love eating in old timey places and the Mount Vernon did not disappoint. It was great to start our trip with clam chowder and lobster roll!
