My friend Katie is a mom, wife, and teacher with such a happy outlook. I know her as a talented math teacher and daughter of my PhD mentor, but recently she has gotten involved with the LuLaRoe clothing line and has managed to get me addicted! Katie has agreed to share her story of joining LuLaRoe and tips for having fun with the clothing.
Now here’s Katie to share her LuLaRoe love with us:
I learned about LuLaRoe clothing a year ago when my friend became a consultant. I went to her launch party and I was hooked. It probably didn’t help that my wardrobe was already in need of a major makeover.
LuLaRoe was founded by DeAnne Stidham to be a “comfortable, affordable, stylish” clothing line that could be sold by independent retailers. They are probably most famous for their ultra soft “butter leggings”, but have many other styles in knits, lace, and other fabrics. Designs are available for women OF ALL SIZES, and men and children. Artists and craftsmen from around the world are involved in production, with new prints available every week! You can find LuLaRoe through a pop-up boutique, Facebook photo album sale, or online live video sales.
It was not until March 2017 that I decided to become a consultant. One of the major reasons why was my brother went through a T-cell infusion (January) and stem-cell transplant (April) to help his fight against Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He was not able to work and the bills were piling up. If I could not be a stem cell match, the least I could do was help with the bills while still being able to be at home with my family.
Why LuLaRoe and not continue tutoring, or finding something else? Throughout my wardrobe transformation, I also realized that I was becoming more confident and outgoing in my styles of outfits and I felt better about myself in my clothes and who I was.
I was making the harder decision of which fun print was I going to wear, dress or top and skirt, with bold, fun leggings under my skirt or no. And my students noticed. Many days they would compliment me on my outfit, or ask if I had leggings in every color (not yet), or say they looked forward to seeing what crazy prints I was going to wear next – it makes you feel good about yourself, more than I thought it would!
The next words after LuLaRoe in many of their logos is “simply comfortable” and that is exactly what it is. I rarely wear pants and shorts now, it is all LuLaroe – dresses, skirts and tops, with their buttery soft leggings and I am simply comfortable! I wear it everyday to school and have learned different ways to style the tops and dresses to add variety.
I’ve come up with several ways I have been able to style them, but these are not all the styles I carry. The Classic T has a shorter sleeve than some of the other shirts and the Azure is like the shortened version of a maxi skirt with a flirty flip at the hem. You can wear the skirt higher on your waist or fold the yoga band down and wear it lower. Many people will use a belt to be the border between two prints, or with a Carly dress, to add some definition to the waist so it is not as free flowing. Some people (like me) will go back to the 90s and tie the shirt or dress for a little more fitting look.
The Cassie skirt is the most comfortable pencil skirt I have ever worn. You can wear it high or low, like the Azure. I like to wear Perfect Ts with them because it is long enough in the back (coverage) for me to be comfortable to wear the Cassie to school. The sleeves are a little longer and the upper part of the shirt is more form fitting and the lower half is nice and roomy. There are slits on the side that you can tie together, or just tie a knot with the front slit for a little variety.
The Irma is probably LuLaRoe’s most popular shirt and it has a high-low hem and just like all the other shirts, can be worn with anything. Here I have paired it with one of my favorite maxi skirts. The Maxi also has the yoga band so you can wear it high or lower, or even as a dress. They are really fun to knot also!
The Carly dress is LuLaRoe’s newest dress as it came out last summer and is very popular. It has short sleeves, an A-line from the underarm, and the back is longer than the front. You can style it many different ways. This is my favorite Carly and leggings combo that I got from my friend. A wonderful pattern mixing of stripes and floral, but in the summer heat, I forgo the leggings and just wear the Carly for a very relaxing and cool everyday dress.
Another one of their dresses is the Amelia – the dress with pockets. It is great at work when I have to carry my keys with me, I can just put them in my pocket and not have to worry about it any more. It has a zipper in the back and some will wear it backwards (great for nursing mothers) so the zipper is in front.
I put a Monroe Kimono on for a nice layering effect and added some dimension to this solid colored Amelia. The Monroe Kimono is being discontinued, so if you like this piece, usually in chiffon or lace, you will want to act sooner rather than later! They have also just released eight new styles!
LuLaRoe’s mission is where through fashion, we create freedom, serve others and strengthen families; a place where lives are being blessed and dreams achieved through love, purpose, confidence, trust, and growth. And I have seen this even before I became a consultant. One of the perks of hosting a pop-up is you can earn free clothes. These are given away at the expense of the consultant, and it has been my experience, many consultants give generously.
Not only that, but we can get involved in fundraisers, and once approved, LuLaRoe will match the amount donated (there is a formula for the amount given with what items were sold). Before I became a consultant, my friend, who was consultant, organized a fundraiser for my brother and was able to raise about $2100.
I was able to set up a fundraiser for Youth Villages in conjunction with my chiropractor recently and look forward to see how much we can raise for this nonprofit who is dedicated to helping emotionally and behaviorally troubled children and their families live successfully with their various programs. If you have a cause you feel passionate about and want to do a fundraiser, let me know and we can try to set something up.
